The proposed residential conversion is situated in a Conservation Area [adjacent to a Listed Garden wall]. It is currently operating as a restaurant.
A challenging project, the design intends to optimise the existing ‘thin’ footprint of the site by providing 3 bedrooms complete with ensuites, a bespoke feature staircase and introduce a new courtyard and balcony space. All the while looking to improve the thermal performance and appearance of the roof & facades behind the main stucco street frontage. The proposal is designed up to 3 storeys and is characterised by a new glazed lightwell, subservient to the existing form, featuring a single staircase to the middle of the building to provide efficient access to the rooms above, and provide natural daylight deep into the plan. The updated elevations are also designed to provide a smaller collection of controlled views over the Grade I Listed Park and Gardens of Brompton Cemetery.
